A Pumpkin Spice Love Story.

Friday, August 30, 2013

I have been hearing all these rumors circulating, about how to "unlock" pumpkin spice at your local Starbucks by asking for it and then telling the you have the code.

A secret code? I'm in. Usually PSL doesn't make it's debut until a bit later, so the idea of enjoying one before Labor Day Weekend made me giddy. So, on the way to get our nails done, Savannah and I decided to stop at our Starbucks to see if we could hit the festive jackpot. I could already picture the emoticons I would use on Instagram, when I posted my inaugural PSL photo for 2013.

I Googled for like .34 seconds and found the code (it certainly wasn't under lock and key, by any means), and pranced into my local store.

"Hi!" I chirped, already tasting the sweet traces of fall in the air.

"What can I get started for you?" The barista is bored, and totally unsuspecting. I attack.

"Can I get the pumpkin spice latte, please?" Wink, wink. Omg, this is so exciting.

"No, I'm sorry. It's not available yet."

Goodbye, Summer

Friday, August 23, 2013

I can't handle the heat anymore. I sweat when I curl my hair. I'm done with tank tops and shorts; I want oversized sweaters and fuzzy socks and to leave my hair down so my neck doesn't get cold.

I'm ready for Hocus Pocus on ABC Family, and cold night meals, like chili and cornbread or a hearty stew. I'm ready for the few weeks out of the year where I'd rather order hot drinks at Starbucks, just because of the coziness of it all. I'm ready to live in leggings and Hunter Boots. That's still ok, right? Because if it's not... well. I'm probably going to do it anyway. I'm ready for fall TV. 4pm sunsets. Rainy nights and the drone of windshield wipers.

I flashed back today to Halloween night of last year; Amelia tore into the house in her Minnie Mouse costume before she headed off to Trick Or Treat at the church. We listened to Christmas, because it's sort of an unspoken rule that thinking about Christmas officially begins on Halloween night. I was just crossing the threshold of getting uncomfortably pregnant, and we were busy trying to get the nursery built before the holidays hit. We went to Safeway on Canyon and bought stuff to make homemade french dips and crockpot hot chocolate.

Those are my favorite nights. I love a good, hot summer... but I'm an autumn girl at heart.

Sean Parker's Wedding

Monday, August 5, 2013

I stumbled upon this story yesterday, and I'm completely infatuated. This is so beyond. I'm not sure if I'm in love with every detail of this event, or completely horrified at the incredible overkill.

Just... see for yourself. Check out the full coverage in Vanity Fair.

Some of my favorite parts:
  • The guests were handed bunnies, to cuddle. Just because.
  • All 364 guests were dressed wore costumes, specially made by Lord of the Rings costume designer Ngila Dickson.
  • Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes played the rehearsal dinner. No big.
  • Sting sang to them
  • The wedding was in an ancient redwood tree forest. Breathtaking.
  • Every reception chair was topped with a white fur rug
I can't even continue, there are just too many extravagant details. Check it out here

Coffee Style.

Friday, August 2, 2013

You guys. Did you know that coffee in mason jars just tastes better? It's amazing. A miracle of sorts.

Last night was hair night. I always enjoy getting my hair done, because really, what girl doesn't? We get to sit and gab and my hair gets colored and brushed and cut and styled.

Well, as a new mom, and my hair appointment being in the evening... I yawned a lot. Like enough to cause Anna, my favorite stylist, to ask me if I wanted some coffee. 9 times out of 10, I will automatically (politely) decline any food or drink. I mean, it's kind of awkward to eat and drink in front of people who aren't eating and drinking with you, amiright?
