Daily Adventures with Porter

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

I love that I get to spend the entire day with Porter. I'm so blessed to be a work-from-home mom.

However, I don't love that he likes to rip my stung lights off the wall before I can catch him, chew on my sandals (ew),  assume Lennon's dog food are the same as his sweet potato puffs, or clamp down his razor sharp new teeth on my newly-shellac'd nails, laughing as a I try to pry it out of his mouth without ruining my manicure.

On the bright side, I've gotten so much better at cleaning up as I go throughout the day - mainly because I really don't want my baby getting electrocuted, or eating whatever is stuck to the bottom of my shoe.

So... winning, really.

Scenes From The Weekend

Monday, July 29, 2013

It was another beautiful summer weekend in Washington. Sunday was particularly amazing. After church, we ran home and dropped Porter off with family (afternoon naps are a must) and we headed out for the final service of the weekend. We made a quick stop for lunch at our favorite happy hour spot, Masa, on 6th Ave. They have the best chips and salsa, the best "street corn", and the best fish tacos... all doused with a healthy amount of our favorite hot sauce(s).

Are you a Tapatio or a Cholula freak?

I just can't.

I don't understand how people talk about the Anthony Weiner scandal with a straight face. I want to giggle like a five year old whenever I hear his name... and then, the fact that he's in trouble for what he's in trouble for?

He couldn't have, like, been a money-launderer or something?

I mean, really.

Marshmallow Whaaaaa?

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

I've been obsessed with marshmallow lately.

Who am I kidding. Always. I have always been obsessed with marshmallow. Toasted marshmallow, to be clear. Burnt marshmallows, even... yesssss. When I was introduced to Marshmallow Fluff, I thought that life couldn't possibly get better (until friend who introduced me to the beautiful Fluff proceeded to make me a Flutter Nutter sandwich on WONDER BREAD AND OMG I CAN'T EVEN KEEP FOCUSED RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IT'S JUST DREAMY AND IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD IT YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON SO MUCH.

Anyway. That being said, raw (haha) marshmallows are gross. I'm not really a fan. I'll eat one of two out of respect for the 'mallow, because, that's just what good foodies do. The only way I can truly enjoy a raw marshmallow is if I work it into a melty, gooey ball of sugary goodness with my hands, like I learned how to do in sixth grade.

So, yeah. This picture? Makes me giddy.

Oh my Lord. I love marshmallows!? I think this is the first time I've said this out loud.

My favorite fro-yo spot had Toasted Marshmallow flavored yogurt last week, and I almost drove to Paul's work to pick him up so we could go at 2pm. I tried for years to make a delicious coffee drink from the Toasted Marshmallow syrup that all the local coffee stands carry. I will always, always, always buy anything that is scented or flavored like marshmallows.

Anyway, that's not really the point of this post.

My POINT is, my favorite food blogger and I are so in tune, it's not even funny.

Jessica, from How Sweet Eats, is my favorite. She cracks me up, and makes me lust after food that I shouldn't be lusting after. She doesn't know it yet, but I want to bring her into my inner circle of BFFs and people that feed me. She'll feel honored, I know it.

She posted a "teaser" on Instagram the other day for a marshmallow cheesecake that will be up on her blog very soon, and two things happened.

First, my heart stopped. And second, I immediately subscribed to get her blog notifications via email. I had been holding out on this step in our relationship, because OMG who gets food notifications in their email?

I do.

I get food notifications in my email.

I had to. Because if I don't get immediate notification of this recipe, then what am I doing with my life?

Honest Toddler

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

I started following Honest Toddler on Twitter some time ago. I seriously can't handle the pure amazingness of these tweets; they're genuinely hilarious, written from the perspective of a brutally honest and blunt toddler (a child after my own heart).

I just read that they will be on GMA tomorrow (the writer behind the account, not the toddler, to be clear), and I can't wait to watch!

If you don't follow, do yourself a favor: Twitter. Instagram.

You're welcome.

Oh. And they just started following me today. I know it's no big deal, because, I'm just one of 4,600... but I'm one of 4,600 hundred out of the 250k that follow them

So. There's that.

Self-Proclaimed: Foodie

I don't know if I'm an actual foodie, by definition of the word, or if I just enjoy eating, so I was beyond ecstatic to put a title to it. I mean, "foodie" sounds so much better than "glutton" or "bottomless pit". I'm a lady, after all.

So, this is awkward...

I got a little bit behind on my "Every Day In May", and I just quit blogging.

Like, quit. Cold turkey.

This explains so much about me. I get overwhelmed, and I just give up. I get anxious, and I run away. Instead of tackling something that looms over my head, I pick up my phone and tackle the next level of Candy Crush instead, blatantly ignoring what I should be doing.
